Written course · 16 modules + capstone

From “our developer” to the person who owns the systems.

You join Ridgeline Outdoor Co., a fictional outdoor-gear retailer, as its new systems person. You connect its tools, fix its data, automate its decisions, watch it all run, and put AI to work with guardrails. Programming, not a language: Python and JavaScript side by side, with Claude Code as the worked example.

What you’ll learn

1. The app is the front face

Map every system behind Ridgeline's apps, and who owns each one.

2. Think in products

Write the spec from the problem up, after checking the data.

3. Plug AI into real systems

Connect your AI to the warehouse and repo, read-only, with rules.

4. Learn any business fast

Document a warehouse, ship finance a dashboard, learn freight by lunch.

5. Write code like a senior

Turn a messy script into typed, tested, reviewable PRs.

6. Change production safely

Dry run, backup, verify, roll back. Change a live rule by script.

7. Integrations

A webhook receiver that rejects bad signatures and never loses an event.

8. Data you can trust

Find the bug that made Ridgeline's reports lie, and prove the fix.

9. Automation

Route by data, not names. Cover for someone, and switch back on its own.

10. Observability

Monitor outcomes, not exit codes, per account, with a heartbeat.

11. AI inside products and workflows

SQL does the facts, AI does the words. Roll out a chatbot safely.

12. Ship the app as part of the system

Auth, demo mode, error tracking, a health check. Live.

13. Knowledge as infrastructure

Docs that people and their AIs read, and that stay current.

14. The AI toolkit

Memory, hooks, skills, schedules, subagents: your own AI operating system.

15. Own the outcome

Reports, SOPs and the habits that earn you the keys.

16. Capstone: fix it and prove it

“Our biggest customer says they're ignored. Fix it and prove it.” Two weeks, everything you've learned.

Developer. Creative. Thinker. This is the course I wish I'd had when I stopped being “the developer” and started being asked why the numbers were wrong. It's about the work around the code: the systems, the data and the people. I hope it saves you a few of the lessons I learned the hard way.

A job, not a quiz

The course comes with the Ridgeline starter kit, so the exercises feel like a real first month:

  • A seeded warehouse: orders, tickets, invoices, ad spend, returns, rentals.
  • Stub systems you can change safely: a helpdesk, a wholesale portal, carriers, a returns app.
  • Bugs planted where real ones hide, and a story date so the numbers check out.
  • Runnable code in the browser for the beginner and coding modules.
  • Self-checks, hints, and answer keys that open after you hand in your work.
Every trap in Ridgeline happened in real work, somewhere. Only the company is made up.

Questions

Who is this course for?

Developers who build features and want to own the systems around them: the integrations, data, automations and AI that a business runs on. If you're new to code, Module 0 and the setup guide start you from scratch.

Do I need to know Python or JavaScript?

No. Module 0 teaches programming with both side by side, and it's optional if you already code.

What do I need?

A computer (Windows, macOS or Linux) and the free tools the setup guide installs with you, step by step. From Module 3 you'll use Claude Code, which needs a paid Claude plan.

How do I get in after paying?

You'll download a one-page Start here guide. Sign in at the course site with the email you used at checkout: we email you a link, so there's no password.

How long do I have access?

Lifetime. Once you've bought it, the course is yours to come back to.

Can I get a refund?

No. You get the whole course and the starter kit straight away, so all sales are final. Modules 0 and 1 are free to read on the course site first, so you can see whether it suits you before you buy.

Is Ridgeline a real company?

No. Ridgeline Outdoor Co. and everyone in it are fictional. The problems are real: every trap in the course happened in real work, somewhere.
